Easy Access to Data (e.g. via scannable QR codes)

In accordance with the Ecodesign Regulation, Digital Product Passports must be made equally easy and accessible for both humans and machines.

Human users can most easily access the DPP with their smartphone by scanning the QR code for the DPP on the product.

If the product itself is not available or the QR code is not readable, the DPP can still be conveniently accessed in various ways, e.g. via

  • a link to the DPP on online shops
  • a QR code on the packaging or accompanying documents
  • access via search engines, including a planned dedicated DPP search engine from the European Commission

The DPP system also supports a wide variety of software systems. It is inherently system-agnostic. This means that any software that complies with the CEN/CENELEC JTC 24 standards can participate as a DPP publisher and also as a DPP user.

To avoid language problems, standardised translations into the main European languages are provided.
